A swim over an infinite meadow of posidonia sea grass concealing a variety of species and a visit to the charming submerged cave‚ home of unicorn shrimps and lobsters.
This dive site is located on the southwestern coast of the island of Ustica‚ at “Punta Galera”. Here‚ a tongue of land that forms a rocky ridge diving the bay into two adjacent coves.
The dive starts with a descent in the shallow waters of the cove. Following the contours of the coasts line in a southern direction‚ we swim over an infinite meadow of Posidonia sea grass. Between the leaves of grass‚ we can encounter crabs and various types of colourful wrasse.
At a depth of 20m the seabed changes towards a rocky substrate. Here we find a beautiful arch which we can swim through and which leads us right towards the entrance of the cave. The cave’s floor is composed of rocky layers that slope upward to lesser depths. We follow the slope of the cave‚ while we can explore the interesting marine life that hides inside it; unicorn shrimps‚ orange shrimps and slipper lobsters are often encountered.
We exit the cave from the same passage used to enter it and from here‚ make our way back towards the dive boat. Before surfacing‚ we can take some time admiring the sea life that is found around the waters of the cove of Punta Galera; sea stars‚ pencil sea urchins‚ octopuses and cuttlefish.
